ANNUAL MEETING. . The twenty-sixth annual meeting of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts was held in tho Art Gallery last, night. The president (Mr. H. M. Gore) was in tli'e v oiiair, and there was a large atteridahed of-members. In moving- the adoption of the annual report drid balance-sheet, the chairman congratulated the society on the successful year just concluded, and the increase in membership. The'-chaiiman to the very severe loss the society had eiiffored during tho year' through the death of Mrs. S. A. Rhodes, for many years'.a life member of the.society. They: had also lost a true and generous friend iri Mr. A. Hamilton/ a member of the •council, and Mr. P, Van der Velden... who had left such' a fine record behind him. Tho chairman went on to refer to the item in-, the. report announcing thatj the Government had promised them a grant of £600 for the extension of the society's-building. It. had been anticipated that .'the extension .'would: have been completed within the next few months. When war. had been declared, however, tho council had unanimously decided-not to claim this grant until the war -was over.
