PROTECTING THE COAST
ADDITIONAL TROOPS' CALLED OUT. Sections of the Territorial Force in Auckland, Wellington, Wcstland, and Southland were called out for active service by a proclamation issued on Monday. The Minister of Defence (the Hon. Jas. Allan) explained last evening in . reply to a question on tlie subject that these troops had been. called out to assist in protecting some of tlio places that required protection. It had been considered advisable to augment the force detailed for the defence of Westport Harbour and similar precautions had been taken at Auckland, Wellington, and other ports.' This latest increase was in part explained by the fact that some of the coast defence troops had gone away, with the First Expedition! _ Wireless stations, as well as the principal harbours are protected by a military guard.' MOTOR RESERVE ■ Coionet Arthur Myers,-officer commanding the Motor Reserve, reports the receipt of the following gifts: since the publication of our la6t lists. A. E. Minton, Otaki, 1 new bicycle.
