ARMY COMMISSIONS
FOR NEW ZEALAND OFFICERS. Fifteen direct- commissions in the British Regular Army are being offered New' Zealanders, and an examination for these commissions is to bo held" at Victoria College on August 24. The examination, for which entries close to-day, will be conducted«by the Professorial Board, because of the fact that the Defence authorities are 60 busy. Conditions of 'examination stipnlate that tho candidate'' must bo single, and between 20 nnd 25 yearsof age.Ho must pass a medical examination, nnd a theoretical written examination. He must also supply a certificate as to moral character, etc., from a schoolmaster, clergyman,_ or principal of University. The passing of the examination is not necessarily a guarantee, ofa commission. These commissions have beenoffered since the war, and any ap-plicant-must be recommended as being fit in every respect by the officer commanding tho district, who will also certify that' the applicant is likely to be a good officer. All other Territorial examinations for promotion have been postponed indefinitely. This includes the examinations to have been held next month for first- Wmimiasions in the Territorial Forces. S • .
