Mr. D.. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided it the monthly- sitting of the Upper Hutt Court on-Wednesday. Sydney Craiviord.was • with 'costs 75.; for procuring . liquor during the currency of a. prohibition order. Two charges of (ailing to Bend his children to school wore preferred against' John" Lewis, and after the oridtnee of School-Inspector Dineen'and the defendant had been' heard, the -Magistrate''imposed ,a fine .-of 105.,-i with costs 75., ■in each case. Alfred Southey was fined £3, and costs - 75., for ill-treating a-horse. : A youth named B. H. Smith, for whom Mr. Wilford appeared, was charged ivith (1) breaking two windowpanes at Ha.yw-ard's railway station; (2) assaulting William H; Arrowsmith, and (3) using obscene language. ■ Counsel oske<l tlw-Magistrate to give Smith another- chance to ' "make good," adding that he did not propose to malce any_ exciises for accused's conduct'. Smith's mother had. done all she could 'to bring the yonth- to his senses,- and was greatly concerned regarding, his -behaviour. Counsel asked that a prohibition order should lie taken out against accused. On tho first charge. Smith was fined Bs., with costs 75., in 'default 48 hours in gaol; on the second charge a fino of JEI, with 7s. cost , :, .was inflicted, the; alternative being fixed at three days''imprisonment. For using, obscene, language, accused was fined £3. with costs'Ts., in default one month's detention. .','■.'
