' COMPENSATION CLAIMS. ,; Tbo Court of Arbitration continued, its sittings in ' Wellington yesterday. Mr. Justice Stringer presided, and , sitlnig .with him as assessors were:' Messrs. W. In the morning the Court hearci the compensation case in"*~which the plaintiff was the Public\Trustee (as administrator of the estate- of T. Bailey, deceased), and' (ho defendant was. the Wellington Farmers' Meat Co., Ltd., Mr.'J. W. Macdonald, solicitor for'the Public Trust Office, appeared for the Public Trustee, whilo Mr. ! T. Ncave appeared , for tho defendant company. Bailey (otherwise Tom Johnson) was ■! employed at the Waingawa Meat Work* in the Waii-arapa district and wiis kiltf ed. <it a railway crossing on January IV last. Tho sum of XSOO compensation wns claimed in respect of his death and tht question : the Court was asked to decide • was whether Bailey was killed by an accident "arising out of "his employment." After hearing legal argument tho Court, reserved decision. Another compensation , case was that in which tho plaintiff was- tho Public Trustee-. (administrator of ,tho estate of William Brown, deceased), and tho do-' fendant Frederick William. Peddle, farmer, of Whangapoun. (executor of the will ■of Samuel Walter Peddio*.Peddle,'! deceased) ' . ■ Mr. J. ; W. Macdonald, solicitor for the ■Public Trust Office, appeared for the Public Trustee, whilo Mr.'C. H. Tread-' well appeared for the defendant. -The deceased William Brown, together with his employer, was dvowived on August 17, 1913, and the Public Trustee claimed co. pensation on behalf of the widow and her infant son, -who are resident in. England. . After 'hearing legal argument tho Conrl awarded .£225 (tho whole amount to be paid to tho widow), with costs 5 guineas and disbursements.
