WHAT UNION OFFICIALS SAY. (Reo. June 24, 10.30 p.m.) London, Juno 21 The Trade Union officials doubt whether tho employers in the provinces will favour a National lock-out. Mr. Hewitt, chairman of the Central Lock-out Committee, argues that -.the federation will be'unable- to inducethe employers in the provinces to lock-out their men for the sake of forcing on the London workmen what they would Hot force on their own-employees. ' AFTERNOON SHIFT. SUMMONSES ISSUED AGAINST ■MINERS. Sydney, June '2-1. At the instance of Mr. Estoll, Minis-* ter of Labour, eight hundred summonses have been issued .against miners for- re-, fusfng to work the afternoon shift. They arc called on to show cause why Jhe penalty of £50 each should, not be .imposed for participating in a strike. THE -AUSTRALIAN CARPENTERS' DEMANDS. REFUSED BY THE COURT. Sydney, June 24. On appeal bv tho master builders, the Arbitration Court refused the carpenters' demand for a reduction in the number of working hours to forty-four weekly, and also declined to grant preference. t • Tho men employed in the building trades are generally dissatisfied with the award,_ and meetings havo been called to review' the position. Similar dissatisfaction exists in Melbourne, where a strike is talked of.
