THE CENTRAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
j.—.— MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. At yesterday's meeting of the Council of the Central Chamber of Commerce; Mr. C. 31. Luke- presided, and there wero also present Messrs. A. Leigh Hunt, J. Reid, R, Hall, John Brodie, J. F. Atkins, W. Smith, and G. Winder. The remits forwarded by -the chamber for consideration at tho forthcoming Conference of Chambers of Commerce and Local Bodies were approved. Tho president (Mr; C. M. Luke), the vice-president (Mr. A. Leigh Hunt), and Mr. R. Hall were appointed delegates to the conference. A letter was received from the Wellington Chamber in reply to the Centra! Chamber's circular regarding "Shrinkage in railway weights on produce." The- reply was to the effect that the Wellington Chamber and Christchurch and Dunedin Chambers had not found tho facts to be as stated in tho circular.
The Prime Minister (the Hon. W. F. Massey) wrote stating that tho Forestry Commission's report was before the Government for consideration.
It was reported that the president ha<l. communicated with Mr, W. A. Beddoe (Trado Commissioner for Canada) asking him to address the chamber on "The Dominion's Trade with Canada," and a letter was read from Mr. Beddoe expressing his willingness to do so on a date to be fixed. ~
Mr. J. L. Arcus was elected n. member of the. chamber.
The resignation of Mr. W. Jack as a member "of the council was accepted with regret, and Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon was elected to fill the vacancy.
