THE LIGHT THAT FAILED
4 : IN SUPREME COURT. While the AVaikato swamp land caso in tho Supremo Court yesterday, evening Was in progress, the elcctric light failed, and just boforo six o'clock tho Court 'was suddenly plunged .into darkness. There is no stand-by gas service in the Court, and for a, few minutes the hall of justice was only lit try tho feeble clow of half-a-clozen was matches. A hurried consultation was held in tho gloom between His Honour, counsel, and tho jury, resulting in an adjournment to 7.80 being agreed upon, and all parties groped their way out into the rain-sodden street. During the adjournment tho cause of the troublo was discovered to bo tlip usual one in such instances, namely, tho fusing of tho wire controlline tho cirouit which gives tho light to the section in which tho Courtroom is situated. When located, the defect was at onco remedied, and wiien the case was resumed at halfpast sevon all w&s at least as bright and cheerful as a Courthouse can bo.
