THE COMET
CALCULATION OF EPHEMERIS.
Unfavourable weather during the ! past four days has prevented observations of the new Llatinsky comet. Up to date it lias not been seen in Wellington boyond tho two occasions when it was observed by Mr. A. C. Gifford and by Dr. .Hector, of Lowor Hutt. Tho ■comet is of course not visible to ■ the eye, but; granted favourable conditions, it should be observable by opera glasses l between sunset and moon-rise. On Juno 23 it should be very closo to tlio star Alpha Bydrae. The . following ophemeris of the comet has been calculated by Mr. Cltarles J. Westland, of Glenminck (Christchurch), from tho vlements of tho orbit :— "Riglit Declination. Ascension. Deg. Min. H. M. S. Juno 10 8 50 30 3 19 N. June 14 ...... 9 2 18 0 54 S. June 18 ...... 9 12 18 4 41 S. June 22 0 20 24 7 45 S. Juno 20 9 26 32 0 45 S. June 30 9 32 12 11 48 S. Tile comet set at Wellington at 9.18 p.m. 011 .Tune 10, and will set at 9.35 p.m. on Juno 30.
