BEACH • IMPKOVBMENT. SCHEME. A start is to be mado immediately with the beach and esplanade improvement'scheme .at Potono:- The timber has jii6t come to hand. As the work progresses, incidental jobs such as treeplanting, filling in, etc., will be carried out. Although the .installation of the- Sewage schemo in the vicinity will interfere with the foreshoro improvement work somewhat, all the surplus spoil from the former will be profitably disposed of in filling in at the rear of the wall. It is expected that the ,wliole scheme will be comploted by this time next j'ear. Tho construction of tho boat harbour will not bo commenced for a month or so. ■ • . , •■ The new entrance to the Potone Recreation Ground in , Buiek Street has just l)eeri completed. It ia an improvement to tho outside appearance of the grounds and has been built. on. the pattern- of the Newtown Park entrance gates. ■ The Petono .town clock is very erratic at present, and residents are annoyed. For some time past it has had the knack of chiming at the wrong timo, and being either fast or 6low. This week it played another joke by being exactly one hour slow, and several employees arrived at work an hour late. It is understood that a move is being made by tho Petono Methodist Church to raise- a fund suliicient to procure a large pipe organ. ■ . ' A social and card party in aid of school funds was held in the Petono Roman Catholic Schoolroom last eveninp;, and was attended by upwards of 100 couples. Tho musio was supplied, by Mrs. Pollock and Mr. H. Tancred acted as M.C. During tho evening several musical items wcro rendored, and an enjoyable time was spent. Tho Potono Ladies Social Committee ■held a social last evening in. the Buick Street Hall. There was a fair attendance. Mrs. D. Krnser was pianist, and Mr. Dougald Fraser officiated as M.C.
