The adjourned meeting of householders for tho election of a school committee was hold at Kopuaranga on Thursday, when the following committee was .elected: —Mr.. C. C. Jackson (chairman), Mrs. C. 0. Jackson (secretary and'treasurer), Mrs. W. Lett, Messrs. R. D. M'Kenzie, G. A'. Bruco, D. Todd, and F. Donovan.

The annual meeting of the Otaki Licensing Bench was held yesterday. Mr. J. IV. Poyntqn, S.M., presiding. Applications for licenses were granted as under: —Donald Green, Grand Hotel, Levin; John Quirk,,Paekakariki Hotel; J. W. Davies, Albion Hotel, Shannon; Annio Doo«an, Railway Hotel, Otaki; Goo. Tullock, Central Hotel, Otaki; and Thos. Sou-man, Mauakau.

At Newman on Thursday evening a valedictory social was tendered Mr. A. Anderson, who is retiring on superannuation after forty years' service as a teacher, ! fourteen of which he has been headmaster at Newman. Presentations wore made consisting of an illuminated address, a travelling bag, travelling rug, a handsome writing case, .and goldmounted fountain pen from members of School Committee,' parents, residents, and old boys of the Newman School. Letters of appreciation of Mr. Anderson's work were- also read from old pupils in various narts-.of tho Dominion.
