Tom Harrow, of England, is still leading in tho Missouri egg-layina competition, with his 'pan of \\ hito Leghorns. Mr. Jarrott's birds appear to have recovered from their moulting, for- his return for the month of April was higher than, that of Mr. Harrow. Sir. T. Wyrth lias disposed of his property at Mount Bruco to Mr. Norman M'Laehlan, of Maatorton. During tho season just 'endcd| tho Masterton Dairy Company" manuractured 3'ld.ooolb. of butter. A considorablo portion, of this is Ticing kept in cool storage for local consumption. The bazaar that is being held in connection, with tho AVairarapa Pipo Band is proving an unqualified success, _ Much interest is also being centred in tho O.ueen of the Carnival contest, in which Miss Nellio Hogg is tit. present loading. Tho, date of tho military ball in Masterton has been fixed for July 23. Tho annual meeting of the Masterton Picture and Entertainment Company was.held on Thursday'night, wheii tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. A dividend of -10 per cent, was declared for the year. , Dr. P. R, Cook, the retiring director, was re-elected, and. a bonus of £10 10s. each was voted to ,the directors. . . Mr.. Roy Messenger, who has been conncoted with tho firm of Messrs. DalRety and Co., in Maatorton, for a number, of years, has been transferred to tho Napier branch. Mr. Messenger will be missed in athlotic circles, as he has been a prominent member of the Amateur Athletic Club and of tho Harriers. The adjourned meeting of householders for tho election of a school committee was hold at Kopuaranga on Thursday, when the following committee was .elected: —Mr.. C. C. Jackson (chairman), Mrs. C. 0. Jackson (secretary and'treasurer), Mrs. W. Lett, Messrs. R. D. M'Kenzie, G. A'. Bruco, D. Todd, and F. Donovan.

The annual meeting of the Otaki Licensing Bench was held yesterday. Mr. J. IV. Poyntqn, S.M., presiding. Applications for licenses were granted as under: —Donald Green, Grand Hotel, Levin; John Quirk,,Paekakariki Hotel; J. W. Davies, Albion Hotel, Shannon; Annio Doo«an, Railway Hotel, Otaki; Goo. Tullock, Central Hotel, Otaki; and Thos. Sou-man, Mauakau.

At Newman on Thursday evening a valedictory social was tendered Mr. A. Anderson, who is retiring on superannuation after forty years' service as a teacher, ! fourteen of which he has been headmaster at Newman. Presentations wore made consisting of an illuminated address, a travelling bag, travelling rug, a handsome writing case, .and goldmounted fountain pen from members of School Committee,' parents, residents, and old boys of the Newman School. Letters of appreciation of Mr. Anderson's work were- also read from old pupils in various narts-.of tho Dominion.
