OTAGO INSTITUTE'S MEETING. (By T«lO(rraDh.—Frew Association.! Dunedin, Juno 5. ' _ At the meeting of tho Otago Educational Institute to-day a resolution was moved: "That, in view of tho importance, to teachers of the study of tho science of education, the University Senate be asked to make the following alterations to the Arts courses: (a) That education bo included in the list of honours subjects; (b) that the conditions for tho Doctorate of Literature be altered to permit of tho presentation of a thesis embodying tho results of original research in educational practice or literature." The motion was carried unanimously. The following motions were also carried :—(1) "That the Department of Education be asked to consider the follow, ing: A teacher, who h unable for various reasons to attend University classes, and who must, therefore, sit for terms as a ; n exempted studont, should bo allowed 'to tako advantage of a bursary in so far as college registration fees for term and degree examinations ara concerned." (2) "That tho meeting, reaffirms its belief that any. scheme of salaries based on either the average at'tendance or the average roll number cannot bo satisfactory, and instructed its delegates to tho forthcoming mooting in Wellington to do their utmost to oppose any schdmo based on these principles." A motion approviig of tho rpfcrondum on the question if the introduction of religious instruction in the primary schools was defeated bv '32 vote" to 7.
