LATE MR. ORTON STEVENS
SOME TRIBUTES. Reference was made by Bonch nnd Bar (it yesto'day's meeting of fhe Hutt District Licensing Bench to the death of Mr. Orton Stevens, who was for mauv years a member of the Bench. Mr. AV. G. Ridd?ll, S.M., chairman of tho Bench, said that, since the laft mooting of tho committee a valued member, in the persons oLMr. Orton Stevens, had been removed from th.eir midst by a regrettable accident. Mr. Slovens had been always ready to assist tho Bench in its deliberations, and tho eommittoo wished, to record its appreciation of that gentleman's services. The committeo also. wished to convey its deenest sympathy to Mrs. Stevens and family. Mr. A. W. Blair referred, on behalf of members of the legal profession, to the loss as a deplorable ono. They were all indebted to Mr. Stevens for many kindnesses,* and it was littlo for them to do to add ono reference moi'o to tho many public references to tho deceased gentleman's death, Mr. ,T. Cudby, who was associated with Mr. Stevens for ninny years, on tho Bench, also referred to.■tho biKh tsteem in which tho lato Mr. Stevens had been held.
