TRAMWAY DETAILS
SUGGESTED RUNNING CHANGES. A number of detail matters relating to tramway management were touched upon at the' meeting of the City Council last evening. Councillor Luckie stated that a number of complaints had been made against motornien and conductors that they had over-ruu stopping-places irhen signalled to stop. He also suggested that tho Wadestown cars should be diverted from Aitken. Street and run through the city. Councillor Wright eaid that the Sunday morning car from Karori reached Lambton Station just as the train was going out. He understood that the Karori Borough Council did iiot wish to alter the running time- of the cur, but in view of the fact that revenue was being lost this seemed to him to ■ be unreasonable. If tho car started three minutes earlier it would connect with the train. Councillor Wright also • suggested that some sort of sign should ■ be placed upoH s the Newtown cars to ■ indicate whether they were going to ■ run right up to the Zoo or only to the old terminus aV the end of Russell i Terrace. • Councillor Fletcher: They all go to the Zoo. Councillor Wright: I am informed ; that they are not all going to the Zoo. Tho Mayor stated that from May 25 • tho Wadestown cars would run on an 1 altered time-table, and go right through > to Aro Street. This was intended ~to remedy the congestion of_cars at the • Hotel Cecil. As to tho Karori car on • Sunday morning, the council had sub- : mitted a proposal, on the lines indicated . by Councillor Wright, to tho Karori i Borough Council, . but that, body had i turned it down. Under the circumstances, the council could not do anys thing further in the matter. As to tho Newtown cars, they would bo equipped • with destination boards, reading either - "Newt-own Park" or "Zoo." < Councillor Frost: Make it "Zoo." j Tho Mayor said ho hoped councillors - would be unanimous in insisting that i all Nowtown cars should run up to tho 1 Zrin instead of stopping at the old terr minus. Councillor Fletcher: That is what we understood at the meeting on Tuesday.
