FIRE IN DEVON STREET
The firo brigade received a call at 12.45 o'clock yesterday morning to an outbreak of tiro in a ton-roomed house' at 23 Dovon. Street. Tho hiilding, which is a wood and iron one, was occupied hy Mr. Keith and owned by Sir. Alec Keith, of Ma3terton. The diningroom and its contents woro destroyed,' whilo tho remaining portion of tho house was badly damaged by heat and smoke. A fire was left smouldering in tho grate 'after tho occupants retired , to bed, and it is thought that the gusty wind of Saturday night caused a sparkto iguito a mat in front of the grate. The contents of tho building jiro insured in the New Zealand office for £150, and tho building for £750, but iu what offico it is not known.
