Burns, of Carterton, will take tip his duties on Juno 1. It is ptobablo that Mr. Burns will bo introduced to the householders at the annual meeting on Thursday. The results of the cooking competitions in' connection with St. Angus"tine's Church Bazaar are as Bread, Mrs. M'Kcnzie; sponge sandwich, Mrs. Clout; pound cake, Mrs. Jones; seed cake, Mrs. Tregoar; girdle scones, Mrs. Williams. Children under 1-1 years of ago: Scones, Bessie White, 1; Kathleen Fowler, 2; flottie Parrant, 3. Children over 14 years of age: Scones, 'Miss Jones. Trophies for tho competitions were donated by Mesdamcs R. C. Kirk, Fowler, Mockoridge, Fal.der, and and Messrs. T. M. Wilford, M.P., and Smith Tho Potouo Working Men's Cluh has decided to erect a theatre a Ijoining its premises at a cost of £3<~>oo. . It is stated that the Mascotte<i'icturo;<ConM pany will lease tho building for fivo years. , Miss C. W, Christie, organiser for the Order of the Star in, tho East, addressed a well-attended irecting at the. Petono Orango Hall last ovcning._ Tho subject was "The Coming of th& World's Teacher," and the speaker stated that tho present world-wide expectancy had given <riso to tho Order of the Star in tho East, which had brandies in all parts of tho world, and 'a membership of about 20,000. In New Zealand 'the membership numbered upwards of 1100. Of late, numbers of persons at Petono Railway Station have failed to comply with the notices that prohibit crossing the lino. Several narrow escapes have occurred recently, and tho Petone railway officials fje determined to prosecuto offenders in tho future. Commodore J. A. Mac Donald, of the Herotaunga Boating Club, states that hi view of tho proposed boat harbour at Pctorie, several additions in tho s'ltapo of motor launches, deep-keeled yachts, etc., have been added to tho club.
