FRACAS IN CHINESE SHOP

TWO ARRESTS MADE.

■ People who were in the vicinity of a certain Chinese shop in Lambton Quay last evening were surprised to hear sounds that seomed to indicate that a violent struggle was taking place inside After about ten minutes two policemen arrived and, subsequently two men were taken to the police station. It is stated that the men bad entered the shop and after purchasing 2s. worth of'fruit tendered the money and commenced to eat the fruit in tho shop. A dispute aroso as to payment, which led to the intervention of the police, and it is alleged that the two men resisted the constable who came in. An endeavour was made to get into communication with the Lambton Quay police by telephone, hut it was several minutes before this could be effected. Meanwhile the Chinese shopkeeper had locked the door leading to tho street and he and his countrymen retreated to the back of the premises, leaving the constable to fight tho battlo alone. When additional police arrived they could not get insido on account of the locked door. Subsequently, however, an entrance was effected and the men were arrested; They will appear at tho Magistrate's Court this morning. •
