OBITUARY.
Ml. WALTER MURDOCH. A (large circlo of friends in Wellington will regret to hear of tlio death of Mr.: Walter Murdoch, second assistantCity Engineer, and a son of Mr. Matthaw'Murdoch, for many years a member of the City Council. Mr. Murdoch was known to be a. very able man within the compass of municipal engineering; and kindly in disposition, and courteous in manner. v For some years past Mr Murdoch has not enjoyed good health. About two .years ago ho became so run down that iiis medical advisers ordered a long sea trip, and having obtained tbo necessary leave of absence jfrom the City J ' ail{ l Mrs. Murdoch went to England. ■, Though lie had his bad ■ days on tho trip, he returned about sis mouths ago, and felt then, ho said, much benefited by the change of sceno and air. Later on his old trouble reasserted itself, and for a tipie ho was seriously ill. Once more he pulled round, and a few weeks ago resumed his_ duties. These he had once moro to relinquish about a week ago. Tho lato Mr. Murdoch; who was 46 years of age, has been connected with tho staff of the City Engineer for about nineteen years. Up till some threo years ago ho was tho City Building Inspector, from which position ho was promoted Assistant-City Engineer (second to Mr. Morten), and his Work became more general in character. Mr. Murdoch was a ; groat lover of .music, and was no moan performer on tho ■clarinet, which instrument ho played in the old Wellington Orchestral Society and the Wellington Municipal Orchestra. He leaves a widow (woll known to musical, people in Wellington as a capable harpist).-
