ROAD THROUGH HUTT PARK.

Practically, as a result of the deputation which waited upon the Hutt Borough Council last week in reference to. the new traffic (and pipe) bridge over the Hutt River, a conference of the parties interested was held in tho Town Hall yesterday afternoon. There were present the Mayors of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke), Hutt (Mr.' E. V. Bunny), Eastbourne (Mr. W. J. Organ). Pstrvio (Mr. J. M. M'Ewah), the chairman of tho Hutt County. Council (Mr. M. Welch), Mr. H. A. Gold (representing tho Gracefield Syndicate), tho City Engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton), and City Solicitor (Mr. J. O'Shea). The Mayor of Wellington occupied the chair, and 'briefly Btatei the position respecting the Bection of unformed road, and how. they wore all more or less interested in its completion, so- as to uiako the bridge effective as a short cut to tho eastern sido of tho Lower Hutt Valley and Wellington Harbour front. Mi-. Gold stated tho caso for the Gracefiold Syndicate, and mentioned that their road had been metalled, rolled, and provided with >footpaths. The syndicate was also | pared to provide metal from its own quarry free of cost for the forming <i the Hutt Park section of tho road.

Finally it was agreed that the cost of the new section of road (£900) be borne in tho following ratio (subject to 'the approval of tho various contributing bodies).:— Wellington City, £475; Hutt Borough Council, £150; Pctone Borough Council, £150: Hntt County Council, £100; Eastbourne Borough Council, £20. As soon as the approval of the several bodies conco-ned is secured the work will be proceeded with, and by next spring it is estimatedl that between three and four miles will be cut off tho routo between "Wellington and Low.ry Bay. '
