KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting of theKarori Borough Council was held last evening. Those'present were tho Mayor (Mr. CCathie), -and Councillors Burn, Bradiioek; Boyes, Hamilton, Cimino, Davies, Henderson, Lewer, Skegg. ■' • A , "'letter was received from the, Wellington ■&%. Council in regard to-tho extension of "the City water and drainage systems to a- portion- of the' Karon borough. The that provision was being mado on th,e estimates for drainage work to be. carried out under tho deferred-payment sys-tcin.-^llecoived.
A proposal from tho secretary of the Fairviow Estate desiring to havo a portion of Alexandra Street closed'was declined. A request by the Island Bay Prcsby.tcrian Sunday School for the use of the park on Saturday was granted. The borough engineer reported that the grounds at tho park woro in' good order, and shoulcl give satisfaction to the Hockey Association during tho season, which begins on April 1. The croquet lawns, however, were, not all that could be desired, but, with attention and toi>-drossing, hotter results were hoped For next season. In regard to the subsidence in the train track extension the. engineer reported tli'at the had opened the nine-inch pipe culvert thcro and had found a piece of timber blocking the How of storm water. Tho pipes, which had boon found to havo been carelessly laid, had been cemented .and the hole filled up. The present reservoir at tho qunrry which Bupplicd water for council works was inadequate. It- only held 500 gallons and a capacitty of. 3000 gallon 3 was necessary. The cost would bo about £30.
