The inspector reported on various cases brought under his notice. When certain , cases of poultry haying been left'without water wero being discussed, the inspector said that ho would liko to suggest that copies of sections of tho Police Offences Act be printed so that people could not plead ignorance. Regarding cert'iin fowls reported <n, Mr. Seed said.that they wero just regarded as merchandfse, and wero not fed or watered. Tho captain of the steamer they were carried on had admitted is much, and had-been informed that he was responsible. The Act read that the fowls must bo provided with food, water and shelter. ■■ .
A long letter was :received from Mr. J. V J. Keralake, .foreman of the Corporation yards, resenting , the imputation alleged to bo made by the inspector that he had worked a horse after/being warned that it was'not in a fit condition to bo worked. "I'am. surprised,"" wrote Mr. Kerslake, "that' Mr. Seed, holding the position ho does, should'make such a statement under the- circumstances. Court, .Mr. Seed stated that he thought'the;whole matter 'should bo dealt with by the City Council: That would give Mr. Kerslako every opportunity to call evidence, and ho (Mr. ''Seed) could do the same. The ncting^hairman: "I think the society has; assured you that wo are completely:, satisfied with-your work in ;this matter. This man will, evidently not be satisfied!unless he gets the last word—well,.let him have.it. The best thing to do-is to take , no further notice of it. Mr., Meredith was also of tho opinion that the case should not be gone on with. The* letter will just .bo received." : , , , ,-■, A' motion that no further action be taken was carried.
Accounts amounting to £9 16s. wore passed for payment. ■ Sir, Robert Stout wrote declining the office of vice-president, on the score that lie, was connected, with so ninny 'societies. ' :'
