As the result of a, eosfereiico between tho members of th& Outlying Districts Committee of the City Go'uneil and the Prirno Jl-inistor yestercia.v, it was agreed that a.committee consisting 0f the Sur-veyor-General, the City Engineer, _ and a representative'of the owners of private property in' Vogeltown -should ho appointed to investigate the unsatisfactory state of n-fTairs whieti has arisen in that suburb, owing to the fact that- the originnl surrey made when the land was SuhdividerJ was clefeCtivO. Members of the Outlying Districts Committee Jn» formed tlie Prime Minister that it. was admitted by the Land Transfer Department that the survey was bad, In- sftiuo cases of disputed boundaries the Department had already paid compensation. The City Council had received reports from its officers that they hardly knew wheio some of tho .streets we'fe. The Department admitted the necessity of a re-survey, but it now suggested that the. City -Council should bear tho cost. In this tho council did not conofir. It Was rather a matter for the residents concerned, some of whom, owing t« the defective survey, were trespassing on neifiltbourintc properties. Mr. W. H. Morton (City Engineer) said that- the trouble was freatly ngsirnvated by the li*lty nature of the Many of. the gradients were tmfit for city subdivision, and in some cases it Was impos-siblp to locate the streets. In addition residents in some instances were unable to- locate their, boundary fences. • It was stated that a new survey would cost about; £350. Departmental reuorts quoted by tho Prime Minister indicated that tlie original survey w.ts a private- ono made under the' Deeds Registration Act-, and not under tho Land Transfer Act, and consequently not subject to any proper cbe-c-k. It was a-ddtd that the original survey was bad, and that some of the niarks had disappeared. The Prime Minister expressed the that the committee consisting of the SurreyorGeneral, the City Engineer, ,aud a representative of the private owners would proliablv be able to r-pcomnvend _ some way out of the difficulty. In this view tli» Mayor (Mr. Luke) concurred.
