DOG-HOOK & SLING.
MALCONTENTS LESS PROMINENT. Matters wore very quiet on the wharves on Saturday and tho engagement of labour was. carried out without incident, no friction between the an-; tagonistic sections of tho new union being reported. It was apparent that a smaller crowd of ex-strikers than usual put in an appearance. During the past few 'days the membership roll of the now Wharf Labourers' Union has not materially increased. Only half a dozen hands added their names to tho list on Friday and Saturday. Several additional preference badges have been sold. On pay-day a collection was taken lip among tlie men. It is stated that its object was to help the Opawa's firemen, now''duf;on bail- awaiting .their trial at tho 'next ■ sittings of'the'Supreme Court, which aro to bo held next month. , ■ . '■•.■'. It is alleged that certain labour foremen on tho Wellington wharves have nob been carrying out thoir duties in regard to giving preference to members of the new union who joined prior to December 8. The executive of the union have made searching inquiries into tho whole matter,' with the result that it is probable that the offenders will be dealt Hith by their employers. .
