NO APOLOGETIC LETTER.
9 -* LITIGANT AND JUDGE. ■ During the hearing of tho caso of Loo Shook, a Chinese, v. Dr. Mackenzie, a Wellington eye-specialist, in tho Magistrate's Court on Friday, the name of a loarned and respected Judgo of tho Supreme Court of New Zealand was mentioned in very unusual circumstances. The interlude in point was reported in Saturday's Dominion as follows: — Mr. V-. R. Meredith (counsel for the plaintiff) : You have been a litigant before ? Defendant: Yes, I was here,,, charged with cruelty to a dog. You remember the caso of Mackenzie v. Mackenzie? —"Yes. You are going to allege that I took my family down." Do you deny tho truth of what His Honour Sir Joshua Williame said about you in his particularly scathing remarks? —"Yes, absolutely- My wife wrote a lotter to Sir Joshua Williams afterwards, and got a. reply back, apologising for what he'had said." When tho hearing of the claim against Dr. Mackenzie was continued on Saturday morning, Mr. Meredith asked Dr.Mackenzie^if he had wiin him the let-, tor he had referred to on the previous day. , Dr. Mackenzie then said that when ho had mado the statement , on tho previous day ho was labouring under a misapprehension. Tho fact ,was that his wife had merely interviewed tho Judge. Tho cose referred to had occurred a long time ago, and when ho was giving evidence on Friday he had forgotten the circumstances.
