A THEISMIC SETTING.
■; FOR UNIVERSAL BELIEFS. ;/ By Tokcraph-PrcEs Aseodsnioo-CoErHsht <■■ .: : .(Rec. January 13, 11.45 p.m.) :. ■' l London, January 15. 'Mr. A. J. Balfour's Gilford Lectures are exciting public attention. He argues that the body of beliefs which nil people entertain about the world, men, and things, would bo more reasonable if regarded in a Theismic sotting. He said that until the idea of consciousness was added to evolution, the latter would be a meaningless phrase. Unless behind men's reasoning, ethical sentiments, and fcelitigH for beauty, men found a rational cause, a nwral cause, and n Clod who cared for beauty, these beliefs would be largely valueless. ,
