AUCKLAND'S "SPECIALS." APPRECIATION OF THE MAYOR, (By T«l«sraph-Pr«B Association.) _■ Auckland, December 14. Over 1000 young men who acted a« special constables during the recent striko assembled in the Drill Hall for the final parade, beforo being disbanded. Tho Mayor and some members of the Citizens' Defence Committee were present. The.Mayor, on behalf of the city, thanked the special men. He referred to the splendid services which tho men had rendered at the most critical time that had ever occurred in the history of tho city. In his opinion the Auckjand foot "specials" were organised better than in any other centre troubled by the strike. He trusted that tho moil would not be wanted again, but ho felt sure that if they were they would offer with the same spontaneity as they had shpwn six weeks ago. Mr. Parr announced that tho Citizens' Committeo intended to entertain the special men at a .smoke concert next Friday. -The question of pay was mentioned by tho Mayor, who said that tho late had been left to the men themselves. It was declared by tho parade that Bs. per day would bo satisfactory.
