On November IS leports were cabled that the expedition was feared to have encountered disaster. On November 20 came a rumour that tho Belvedere, his supply ship, had been lost. A later message, on November 2!), reported that tho supply schooner Mary'Sachs had been caught in the ice. Yesterday ■ came- the news that a landing parly he'd lost 1 the Karluk in a fo;;, and their' whereabouts' we're unknown.
