THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE
A BEAUTIFUL TMEATKE. The interior decorativc glories of the now (! raw] Opera House, now 111 tiio final stages of completion, are very striking. Tiie whole of tiro scaffolding has now been dismantled from tho auditorium, exposing for tho first time the full effect of tho sumptuous sciiemo 9! decoration, and it is almost dazzling m llio sense of beauty and luxury •it creates. Against a groundwork of rich, dark blue, the pais browns, _ lemon tints, and gilt colouring used m picking out the highly-ornate plaster work of the proscenium, boxes, balustrades, and ceiling is extremely beautiful, whilst tho floral panels, most artistically painted by Mr. George Coulter, the Svdney artist, arrest the eye pleasantly." The same artist is responsible for a ring of Cupids that float airily round the dome that circles tlw sliding cciling and njof« Tho foyor, tooj has been made a thing of beauty, with charmingly-painted frescoes, faint, aiid atmospheric, of land and sen., and placid river views, whilst the walls liavo been picked out into panels by delicate giltpiaster lines, dividing some exquisitelypainted floral studies. Tho ladies' and gentlemen's clonk-roms havo also been treated in the same artistic maimer by Mr. Coulter, who says that there is nothing better in Australasia than the Grand Opera House. Technically, tho theatre is soundly-planned. Every seat will command a full view of the stage, and no point in the auditorium appears to be too rcmoto from the stage.
