DUNEDIN SEAMEN
RELIEF PAY £100 PER WEEK. (By Telesrapli.—Press Association.) Dunsdin, December 4. The Kaiapoi arrived from Wellington this morning with 1503 tons of cargo. The strength of tho Arbitration Union this morning was 170, of whom 48 were working on the Kaiapoi, 60 on tho Waitomo, 25 on the Turakiua, 22 on tho Dorset, and 24 on the Miiniro. Tho Waitqmo is expected to sail to-morrow evening for Oamaru, Timuru, and Auckland, and the Miiniro for Brisbane, liclief pay is now being distributed amongst members of ' the. Dunedin branch of tho Seamen's Union, tho amount totalling, it is said, £IUO per week. It .is also said that at a meeting of the Dunedin seamen on "Wednesday there was a vote as to whether a secret ballot should be taken on the question of tho men returning to work. Tho proposal was materially affected by information supplied bv Mr. Mackie, one of the Auckland delegates, that £1000 had been voted by tho Australian seamen towards relief pay to the seamen in New Zealand. ULTIMATUM OR "VERBAL HINT"? LHy Telesrapli.—Press Association.) Dunedin, December I. The Union Company has denied that an ultimatum was issued to tile seamen. It is understood, however, that a hint was verbally conveyed to an official of th(! union that the company had derided to make its own arrangements after Saturday for manning vessels if tiie seamen and lire-men did not return to work.
