CHRISTCHURCH " SPECIALS;"
NOT DISBANDED, (By. Telegraph— Press Association.) ' ChriStchurcil, December 4. Reports as to disbandment of tho special constables aro entirely without foundation. 'Tho foot specials have been allowed to return to their homes and occupations.in town, but they have not been disbanded, and aro still held ready for service. It is understood tiiat a list of all foot specials has been deposited at the Telephone Exchange, and on a signal beins given all telephone work would bo suspended and the specials wou'd be called up on the. " 'phone," and would promptly assemble at a prearranged rendezvous. To-day was tho first day since the mounted men arrived that there were no patrols in tho city. Though a eood deal of work is being done it was decided to nivo tho strikers and their sympathisers' tho opportunity of proving their good behaviour. The patrols will not be called unless they aro urgently needed for protection.
