The petition of Peter Heycs, of Wellington, praying that tho charges on which he was asked to resign his position as Commissioner- of Taxes be fully inquired into, and that he bo granted compensation, was reported noon yesterday by tiie A to 4. Petitions Committee of' , tlii'» House of Heprosenialiios. The committee recommended: "That in view of tho circumstances surounding the retirement of Mr. Heycs from the Public Service, his petition bo referred to the Government wit'i a. recommendation that tho. subject matter thereof ami the statement niacin before the committee should lie investigated by a judge of tho Supreme Court."
