Tlio Mexican Government is ingeniously raising money by taking over the sale of patent medicines. The expectation of intervention is rapidly diminishing. President Huerta has telegraphed that the oil wells at Tuxpan and Tampico arc perfectly safe, aiid that ho is fully confident of his ability to suppress the rebellion. AVhen Mr. Bryan, United States Secrotary of State, received this assurance he went duck-shooting. ' BRITAIN'S INTERESTS. Washington, November 24. Mr. W. G. Tyrrell, private secretary to the British Foreign Minister, is conferring with President Wilson regarding the Mexican situation. Mr. Tyrrell camo specially to the United States in order to place the British viewpoint before the President. The illneßS of Sir C. Spring-Sice, British Ambassador to Washington, makes it difficult for him to conduct negotiations." State Department officials think that the oil :onces3ions recently granted by Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador to foreign countries are likely to lead to friction' with tho United States in the future. Thero lias been iierco fighting between the Federals and the Constitutionalists in the neighbourhood of Jaitrez. The Federals were, at first, driven back, but, reinforcements arriving, thoy gained ground, and tlio battle is still raging. Heavy losses are reported! It is estimated that 10,000 troops are engaged. Reports from El Paso state that General Villa, the Constitutionalist leader, surrounded General Salayar, leader of tlio Federals, and has cut hundreds to pieces. General Villa is seeking to take General Salayar alive, in order to exccuto him. HUERTA AT THE BULL-FIGHT. "Times" —Sydney "Sun" Special Cables. (Rec. November 25, 6.35 p.m.) Mexico City, November 24. General Huerta, when attending a bull-fight, was loudly cheered by those present. Ho presented a tureador with a hundred dollars. Tlio price of commodities is steadily rising. The aimy levy has created eonsternation amougst the lower classes. Even women aro being drafted to the cclgurs.
