FOR THE DUNEDIN LUMPERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Duncdin, November 24. This morning railway trucks wero pushed alongside tho Taviuni, nnd tlio task was commenced of discharging tho GOO tons of coal and coke and 3'2QO sleepers which she carries. Three hatches wero worked, and a good morning's work was completed. Tho Northern, from Now York, with about 600 tons of general cargo, was moored yesterday afternoon, and a gang of 14 Arbritrationisfe and somo from outsits?' assisted the crow to work her to-day. It is expected that slio will complete discharge on Wednesday, after which she will proceed to Port Chalmers for docking.
It is stated that fire new men commenced work this morning, but two of Saturday's muster did not appear. One of the latter received rough treatment on Saturday night in town, and the other succumbed to "peaceful picketing." According to widely garnered statements thero is a good deal of intimidation -which will not long be brooked. If the men who have had the monopoly of tlio waterfront work do not embrace tho chttnce by Wednesday, sufficient labour will be brought in to work the port under normal conditions. The Wharf' Hotel anil tlio Terminus Hot-el wero opened again to-day, Superintendent Dvryor being of opinion that tho quietness at the waterfront justified relaxing tho order to close. It is understood that seamen and. firemen are, at liberty to ship if desire to do so, but tlio men say individually that they are not inclined to incur the odium and run tho risk that this Would involve. About 350 volunteers have enrolled in Dnnedin as special constables. So far they have not been required.
