TIMELY DISCOVERY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! Palmerston N., November 24. Early on Sunday morning what appears to bo a deliberate attempt to burn tho railway bridge over tho Mailawatu River at Longburn was discovered. The fire was observed by the driver of the Auckland express a little after 3.30. The? flames wero noticed coming up between the sleepers at tho northern end of tlio bridge. The train was immediately pulled up. Tho fire had not a good hold, and was immediately extinguished, tho damage done being slight. Tliero is enough evidence to show that the fire was not tho result of an accident, as materials havo been collected'.
