SYDNEY TRANSHIPMENTS.
[ , FOR NEW ZEALAND. One of the commodities'which is running short in Wellington is rice. Our supply is brought from India and the East in the husk, and is milled in Sydney and Melbourne. As the, steamers run so regularly from those ports, big stocks are not carried by any of the wholesale people, - and as none has arrived during the past month, local stocks are low. The cessation in tho cargo-carrying trade between Australian and New Zealand ports is said .to bo causing a good deal of inconvenience at Sydney, which is the final port for the I', and 0., Orient, North German Lloyd, Nippon Yusen Kaislia, and other lilies of steamers which bring cargo for transhipment to Now Zealand every week. These! consignments are accumulating,, as there has heen no chance of getting much of it away for a month past. As much of this cargo—English and Continental-for tho most part —consists of goods for Ohristrcias, importers are wondering when they are going to get delivery. Now that the New Zealand ports are practically open, and the steamers .are being re-manned, it is thought that these transhipments should not be long in coming to- hand.
