ATTACK ON A "SPECIAL."
) : KNOCKED DOWN AND KICKED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) . Christchurcrf, November 21. Details 'regarding the experiences at Sockburn yesterday evening of a "special" who rode all the way from \ Ashburton to town show that, about dusk, when he reached Sockburn, his horse,- after its long journey; was pretty well done, and he was quietly walking it along the edge of the grass When, unknown'to him, three men ou bicycles dismounted behind him. One of them rushed to the horse's bead, whilst the other two set upon.him. The '"special" was still in the' saddle, and ho tackled one of his assailants and knocked him down with his fist. Another, however, took hold of 0110 of his feet and pulled the rider to the ground. Whilst 011 the grouud ho was kicked several times. While this was proceeding the horse broke away, and began grazing thirty 01- forty yards off, and 'when the cyclists cleaved off their victim managed to crawl to it with difficulty, as he was much bruised about tho body, and suffering from kicks in the groin. He managed to mount, and reach camp, where the camp medical • officer found him to bo very much bruised, and ordered him to tho camn hospital. The "special" was able to bo about to-day, and believes that 110 will he able to identify his assailants. i I
