ROLL NtIMBER-ga?'. The roll number of the newly-formed union reached 9&7 last evening, of which number SO wevo member's ot the old Waterside .Workers"' Union. So great has been the rush to get in before the crush that the authorities havo been somewhat nou-.plussed as to how to accommodate them all,: but BTfangc-meiitE havo practically been completed to hoirso 400 men in the Harbour Board's H sited, Up to tho present squads of the new unionists have been accommodated oil tho Coi-intliic, Remnera, and Hiroutaka, in addition to those on the houseboat Mara-roa, but the Home steamer! will bo leaving port next week, and provision has to bo mado for other accommodation. The position now is that there are aboiit a hundred men more on the union's books than arc at present wanted on the \vharves> and today the chance to depart will be afforded to that number of men who may desire to leave- for their homes in the country. This will give opportunity fori the employment of more applicants from tho City if the occasion demands.
