GENERAL LABOURERS' PAY. Christchurch, November 18. In the Arbitration Court, in tho caso of tho General Labourers' Union against the Master Builders' and Contractors' Association, the City Council, and others, Mr. Howard, for the union, stated that Is. TJcl. an hour, had been accepted before the Conciliation Council because the union had been assured that the Court would give no more. The Court had sinco given Is. 2d. in Wellington and Auckland, and the union asked for the same rates here. Ilio Judge said he presumed tho employers would not object, in view of tho position elsewhere. The employers' representatives said no notice of the demand had been given. Tho case .was adjourned. THIEF SENTENCED. Christchurch, November 18. At tho Supreme Court to-day Georgo Miles was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment for theft of £17 on October 30. Tho evidence showed that Miles took the money from a pair of old trousers at a boardinghouse while tho owner was displaying a new suit in another room. MARTON MOTOR-BUS CO. Marton, November 18. The Marton Motor-Bus and Transport Company, Ltd., with a capital of £5000, has been formed. The provisional'directors (Mr. Frank Spencer, chairman, with Mr. Frank _ Hatherley, secretary) have been appointed. The promoters are sanguine of floating the company within a- few weeks. ' P. & T. OFFICERS. At a largely-attended meeting of the Manawatu branch of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association, the following resolution was unanimously carried:—This meeting of the Manawatu branch of the P. and T. Officers' Association endorses the action taken by the degege-tes in their recent interview with the Public Service Commissioner, and that this branch has every confidence in the executive of the association, and will loyally stand by them in any action they may deem necessary to take in order to effect a settlement of the,present deadlock. ACQUITTED PRISONER COLLAPSES . ,-. Christchurch, November 18. s At the Supreme Court to-day Ernest Robsbn, charged 'with tho theft of a. large, sum of money, was .acquitted. Prisoner collapsed on hearing the verdict.
