CHELSEA SUGAR WORKS.
MAY SHUT TEMPORARILY. (By Telegraph.—Pr<!6a Association.) Auckland, November 12. There is some possibility that work may have, to cease for a short time at the sugar'- refinery works at Chelsea. Inquiry from tho manager elicited the following facts as to tho position:— Whether or not work has to ceaso for a time depends upon tho deliveries of refined sugar. Tho trouble is not a shortage, but an accumulation of stock owing to the, strike. Stocks of refined sugar which would otherwise have been shipped have accumulated, there being now between 6000 and <000 tons on hsnd, added to which there are iome 35,000 tons of raw sugar in port, Until the refined sugar .can lie cleared from the works, it is useless to go on refining, as tho store is already full, as well as tho ono in which tho raw sugar is usually stored. If quick delivery can bo ■secured, it may save the need for stopping work. There have practically been 110 deliveries of refined sugar for the last ten days.
