HASTINGS RESOLUTION.
ißy Ttilej 1 aph—Prci-a Ar/Kjoiatioil.l Hastings, November 11. As iar as can lm ascertained tliere seoins to bo no disposition on the part of shearers in this district to join tho strike. Shearing operations are in full swing in various parts of the province, and other sheds commence to-morrow, A meeting oi tho Hastings Branch of the •Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners passed the following resolution:—"Wo extend heartfelt sympathy to tho locked-out waterside workers hi Wellington, and, whilst regretting the strike, we admire tiro magnificent solidarity shown by the workers in Auckland and elsewhere by refusing to assist to defeat the workers in Wellington. As this appears to be a deliberate attack on organised labour, the members here assembled pledge themselves to pay a levy of 5 per cent, of their wages to assist workers in tho fight. We wish to express our contempt for tho alleged free labour, and our utmost contempt for the so-callcd volunteers who are the alleged defenders of the alleged free labour."
