IN LYTTELTON.
FIFTH DAY OF THE STRIKE. (By Tslcffrapl— Proas AasooiaUon.) Chrlatcliuroh, November 4. Tho fifth day of tho Lyttqlton strike' was marked by tho same dullness which has characterised the situation all through. A mass, meeting outside the Coronation Hall was tho first open-air demonstration at tlio port since tho start of the trouble. The meeting was very orderly, and the speakers were given a very attentivo hearing. The daily roll call was responded to by 460 men, but not more than half of that number were to bo scon about tlio streets or l waterfront aii hour after tho meeting. Tho conduct of tho strikers continues exemplary. The inner harbour this morning - presented an even more deserted appearance than on proceding days. Three little steamers (Opouri, Cygnet, and John Anderson), and tlio Monica, Purau, and Canterbury, and tho schooners Atinio Hill, Morning Light, and To Aroha had the wharves all to themselves except for the presence of half a . dozen forlorn-looking coal hulks lying idlo at tho jetties. Out in tho stream an unusual sight presented. itself to Lytt-elton people. _ Tho, three colliers at anchor had been joined over-night, and early this morning by three nioro colliers from Greymouth. Tho Kaitangata, Kini, Karnmu, Kowhai, Flora, and Canopus, all rested in orderly array. Tlio Flora, Karamu, and Kowliai were tlio new arrivals, and brought full cargoes of coal, loaded just before tho Grey watersidora wont out.
