cial constables is being answered by applications from tho country districts. Thames, November 1. Applications aro being called for special mounted constables, and it is expeoted a good responso will be made in the country districts ' near Thames. Many are already enrolled,, and will proceed to Auckland as soon as the men are mobilised. New Plymouth, November 1. Tho executive of the Employers' Association mot this morning and decided to call a public meeting this afternoon of town and country people to take steps to enrol special constables, and if necessary free labourers. Te Awamutu, November 1. An enthusiastic meeting of farmers and business men was held at Te Awamutu to-day. Business men offered to close their promises and professional men their offices, to allow their assistants to go to Auckland, while the farmers to a man signed enrolment forms, and a number of special constables were also enlisted. Tho president of tho Waikato Winter Show mentioned that he has been, approached by a deputation of women at Hamilton, who offered to organise a force of 500 women to go to Auckland to shamo the men. Carterton, November 8. Another contingent of about 150 Wairarapa men ia leaving for Wellington to-day. Hawera, November 3. A contingent of 120 men and horses left Hawora for Wellington by special train to-day, for service as special constables. The number included 55 from. Eltham and Stratford. Eltham, November 8. Fifty-five mounted special constables left here this morning for Wellington amid enthusiastic scenes. The contingent comprised 45 from Eltham and 10 from Stratford. Feildlng, November 8. About 100 leading farmers, their sons and business men of Feilding, and others assembled with their horses ready to so to Wellington this afternoon. The train, however, could only accommodate 40, and that number was dispatched amidst great enthusiasm.
