THE CALL FOR FREE LABOUR.

| STREAM OF MEN WILLING. TO WORK LYTTELTON. (At Taloirmp'h.—Prooa Association.) ~ Chrlstohurch, November 3. Although no definito information is being given out regarding tho exact number of men who are enrolling at the Employers' Association's rooms, it is understood that thoro Has been a fairly steady stream of men willing to. take work oil the Lytt-clton ■ wharr in the event of their services being required. The attitude of employers and of farmers is not one of hostility. There is no desire on their part to accentuate ill-feeling at this juncture. The statement that freo labour is to be used on the wharves at Lyttelton to-morrow _ is without foundation, but, if necessity arises, sufficient men have offered their - services to permit of the port being manned,, and of free labour being adequately protectod. Amongst those who have enrolled as free labourers are sev.eral who 'have been thrown out of work owing to tho striko affecting industries in which they are engaged. The shortage of cement stocks and non-arri-val of fresh supplies is affecting building operations. About ten or twelvo men engaged on a large building >at Addington, intended for a wheat store, havo beon temporarily thrown out of employment in consequence.
