HOTEL RAIDED.

ATTACK ON THE ROYAL TIOER. EVERY WINDOW BROKEN. Late in the evening two raids were made on the Royal Tiger Hotel, in Taranaki Streot. It had been whispered quietly round wliilo tho crowd was still gathered about the military barracks after the riot that the hotel was to bo attacked because the specials had been supplied with some meals, etc., from there. The first onslaught occurred hbout two hours after tho riot and the other towards midnight. Tho crowd raised a considerable row. and broke all tho Windows of the establishment. The mounted police vrero scut to tho sccno to quell tho disturbance. It is reckonod that

the mob totalled several hundreds. While tho windows of tho building were broken, none of the inmates were hurt, and none of tho stock was damaged, llalf-bricks and stones in plenty lauded in the rooms It is considered that the promptitudo of the polico in arriving at the scene of the trouble saved the situation for the hotel. The doors of the pltico were rxot barricaded,-- and tho house was relying solely on polico proteetion. A cry was raised, "Bush tho door! Rush tho door!" Tho men rushed the door, but their united force failed to break it down. No shots were fired. Complaints are said to have been made because some of. the specials had breakfast at the hotel" that day. During the morning someone wrote in chalk ou the footpath outside the house: "This is the scab house."
