THE CONFERENCE.

NO SETTLEMENT REACHED YET. . RESUMES TO-DAY. In response to a request by tho Prime Minister (Hon. -AY. F. Massey) that the employers should again meet tho representatives of the strikers, a meeting of tho Employers' Strike Committeo held yesterday decided to appoint seven representatives to meet the union's delegates. Tho following resolution was adopted:— "That tho Prime Minister be advised that tho employers are quite willing to meet a deputation from tn© watersiders, but they desiro it to be understood that it is not for the purpose of considering anything but the wliole position, ana the best terms for settlement, in the interests of all parties j and that the employers' delegates be instructed accordingly by this meeting," The conference was'held last evening in the Cabinet Room at Government Buildings, commencing at 7 p.m. Tho Hon. W. F. Massey (Prime Minister) presided. The following were the employers' delegates:—Messrs. W. G. Foster (Wellington Meat Export Company), G. Shirtcliffe (Wellington Chamber of Commerce), J. G. Harkness (National Dairy Association), \V. A. Kennedy (Union Steam Ship Company), E. C. Jack (New Zealand Farmers' Union), W.-Pryor (Employers' Federation), and Captain Evans (Superintendent of the Shaw, 1 -Savill Co.). Tho workers were represented by the following:—Messrs. W. T. Young, 11. Semplo, P. Hickoy, W. Parry, F. Curtico (president of tho Waterside Workers' Union), G. Stove (flaxworkers' representative), and H. Yoyco (Lyttolton Waterside Workers). The conference sat till 11 p.m., when it was announced by the Prime Minister that the deliberations had not been concluded, and that the conference had adjourned until 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. Mr. Massey, in reply to questions, said that he had no further information to impart. > It is understood from other sources that it is still quite uncertain whether an agreement will bo arrived at. by tho conferenco, but that tlie.re is just a chance of'a settlement.
