PICTON LUMPERS.
CALL TO CEASE WORK. (Bi Tolearaph.—Press icaoclatloa.) Blenheim, Noyember 1. A telegipm. was received at Picton yesterday from Mr. Mickey and Mr. Young calling the local watcrsiders out. As no further word has been received from the Federation of Labour, a meeting was held early this morning to consider tho position. The outcome of the mooting is not yet known. Though iUarlborough is directly affected by the disorganisation of tno shipping trade, tho district is in a position to stand a long siege without suffering to any extent. T'io continuanco of tho striko might mean diseomfituro as regards sugar and kerosene, but Blenhoim is well supplied with coal. Tho gasworks received a few days ago a largo shipment. A shortage in benzine affects business men running oil-engines, motorcars, and oil-launches. The farmers' requirements generally havo been filled. Shearing and harvesting can be anticipated with equanimity. The local supplies of fruit aro small.
