EVER-READY POLICE.
MOUNTED MEN FULLY ARMED. The promptitude with which a band of police, both mounted and on foot, arrived on tho scene yesterday whenever and wherever a disturbance occurred, showed that very full arrangements ar'e being mado to cope with all trouble. _ Still moro men and horses arrived in the City yesterday, but the police authorities aro very reticent as to tho actual strength of the force under thoir command. When the mounted men paraded yesterday, t-hoy presented a very fine appearance as they passed through tho City. Each man carried a baton in his right hand, and had a revolver and bandolier at his waist. This is tho first occasion on wliieh an armed police force has been seen in Wellington For very many years. 'Die detachment which rode through Lambton Quay and cleared the street after the riot of tho early evening numbered 30 strong. They were londly cheered by tho huge crowd Which had gathered to witness tho encounter.
