SHEEP-SHEARING CLASSES.

The following is taken from tho ,report on tho working of the sheep shearing classes held at Waimatc, South Canterbury, from October G to October 25, under tli-2 auspices of the Waimato Technical Association. Tho secretary states tint tho number instructed in machine-shearing was 17, iu blade 15. Tho instructors were Mr. 'J'. Brownlee (machine), and Mr. Alex. Brown (blade). Tho classes were fortunate in being able to shear every day but two, tho first- day being taken up in preparing and grinding shears. So anxious were the pupils to learn that tlioy commenced work at 8' and 9 o'clock instead of at 10 o'clock. Tho thanks of tho board ara duo to Mr. 13. C. Studholino for the uso of his shed and engine, and also to Messrs. Dailey and Manchester, and Mr. J. Iv. Borric for supplying sheep. All these gentlemen were highly pleased with the manner their sheep werj shorn. Tho number of sheep shorn were: —First week 1200,second. week 1250, third' week 1250; total, 3700. The shed was visited by a number of farmers and others during tho thrco weeks. In all 21 certificates of proficiency have' been awarded to pupils. . Mr. J. Douthwaito writes: —"I consider the work dono by the pupils, both blado and machine, of a very high order—looo hoggets shorn for' Mr. Borrie have given him perfect satisfaction —to use his own works, never had a sheep shorn better.'' -Mr- Black writes: —"Much pleased with the work done; am of opinion tho sheep I ha\o seen shorn aro fully as well done as they would havo been by_ the average professional." Mr. Meredith writes:— "Tho instructors have dono their work well and carefully. The students have shown aptitude and desire-to excel, and tlieir conduct has been most exemplary."
