NOXIOUS WEEDS

QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT. Tho cutting down of all Californian thistles prior to seeding, in every district of the Dominion, is advocated by Mr. G. Witty in a question which ho has addressed to tho Minister of Agriculture in the House of representatives. He appended to his question a statement that it has been reported and published that in simo district largo landowners aro allowed to lot tho thistles grow on their land to tho detriment of tho small farmer. Tho London correspondent of tho Auckland "Star" writes: —"Mr. Purdio Somerville, of Sondilaud, Lanark, has sold to Mr. J. Douglas, of tho North Island, tho yearling Clydesdale filly l'nrkhall Gem. by Scotland Yet. This filly took first prize in its class at tho Biggan Show. Other New Zealand purchases aro Scotland's Sport, a two-year-old colt by the samo sire out of tho noted inaro Peggy Pride, and Scotland's Hero, a yearling colt by Revelenta." A class somewhat novel to A. and P. Shows has been added to tho prizo schedule of tho forthcoming Pabiatua Show. This particular class, which has boeil strongly recommended by Mr. Milton Aipass, to encourage tho breed of dairy stock, is for a bull, cow, and offspring thereof, tho calf not to bo more than six months old. Purebred stock are not eligible to compete. Dairying <points, in judging, are to bo taken into special consideration. • Once upon a time there was really no assistance for tho clieese-maker; he had to take "pot luck" with whatever crude apparatus came his way. And even a few j-ears back cheese-making was an uncertain process. Then camo the "Victor" Vat and with the ailvent of this most efficient aid cheese-making was lifted out of the "rut," and is to-day ono of tho chief industries of this country. Every cheese factory manager should instal "Victor" Vats or at least send to Mr. A. J. Parton,. Plumber, Carterton, for particulars.—Advt. Calf Food Up-to-Date—The "Gilruth" Calf Pood is now prepared in two qualities. No. 1 (blue brand) for feeding with 1 skim milk, and No. 2 (red brand) for feeding with either casein or cheese whey. Obtainable all Stores.—Advt.
