WATERSIDE FUNDS.

AND THE SEAMEN'S ATTITUDE. When asked by a "Dominion" reporter if he had anything to say' yesterday afternoon, Mr. G. G. Farland replied in the negative. Asked if he had' received any telegrams from outsidq unions, the secretary of the Watorside Workers' Union said, "Well, yes, we have, but they are of a business nature and will not be available for publication." Has the question of strike pay been considered F "No, not yet. That is a matter that will come up later on. Wo'are just getting things settled up at present, itnd as far as the committee is concerned wo havo nothing for publication today." From inquiries mado yesterday, it was learned that the funds of the Wellington Branch of the Waterside Workers' Union were not in a very financial position. A few weeks ago tho fund amounted to some £1500. From that a sum of £100 was voted when tho union joined the Federation of Labour. A few days ago £100 was sent to Dublin for tho, relief of tho strikers there. This means that at present the union's funds amount to approximately £1300. There are 1800 financial members of tho union, and if it is decided to issue strike pay, say at tho rate of £1 a weok, it will be seen that the money will be all gone in a couple of days, that is provided no other union comes to the watersiders assistance. Persistent Rumour. Persistent rumours wero m circulation yesterday to the effect that strong endeavours wero boing- ma3o to get the Seamen's Union to como out. It appears that the rumour was not altogether without foundation. From what could bo gathered, it was that the Seamen's Union would consider the question of coming (jut provided that the men's wages for the present month wero guaranteed. Whon Mr. W. T. Young, secretary of tho Wellington Branch of the >Seamen's 'Union, was asked if he had anything to say on the above matter he made a non-committal reply.
